EA Sports Active Review & Giveaway.- (CLOSED)

Leading video game publisher, EA Sports™, introduces a new workout style video game, EA Sports Active™, featuring workouts designed to get you in shape as well as have fun. With the help of Bob Greene they have designed workouts unlike any other "get fit" game on the market.

The EA Sports Active™ comes with the game disc, a leg strap and resistance band. The leg strap is well made of thick breathable neoprene material. It fastens onto your upper thigh and is held in place by a Velcro strap and come with another band of Velcro to shorten the brace to fit even the smallest of legs. The band although made of thin and flimsy material is actually quite strong. I did have a bit of trouble understanding how to put the band together. After that was worked out it has held up, in house of six kids whose sole mission in life is to break things, that is really saying something. You can also buy an accessory pack, if you want to work out alongside someone else. This is a feature that I personally enjoy. I like being able to work out next to someone, it really ads to the fun and gives a bit of competition to give you that extra push.

EA Sports Active™ isn't just about the workout, it also compiles a journal that tracks the number of meals/veggies you ate, glasses of water/soda drank, number of hours and intensity of those activities. All combined to give you little goals to achieve and trophies awarded for achieving these goals. The trophies range from one hour of working out to 10,000 calories burned. If your family is anything like mine, you know that there is much gloating going on when one has obtained one of those little glittery light up trophies, when the others have not.

When choosing your workout for the day you can choose the 30 Day Challenge that puts together 30 days of workout routines designed to get you fit, preselected workouts that target different areas of your body, or choose your own workout, picking the workout or sport you choose. These custom workouts are then stored and can be used again. All of which can be done alone or with your workout buddy. You can also incorporate the Wii Fit board to intensify some of your work outs, but it is not neccesary to have.

When I first heard about it, I thought, "Oh no, not another wimpy work out game." After working out with this for the past week (of my 30 Day Challenge), I can say that this is not some wimpy game, nor is it like Wii Fit™, my kids- as well as myself, I'm ashamed to say- have figured out a way to "cheat" on the Wii Fit™. There is no cheating on this game, there is nothing but sweat and calorie burning exercises.

I'm thinking I'd stick with the option to chose my own activity since I'm NOT active at all, sounds like the 30 day challenge might kill me if I start there :)

While just about any of these would help me get fit, I'd probably look at Kickboxing. I wouldn't want to do a class just yet, but this would help me inside the house.

As for why I'm trying to be active - I need to get in shape. I haven't been as active as I should be and I need to start being more active to keep up w/ my kid.

In my previous comment I forgot to tell you why I'm active so I'll repeat that I think the kickboxing workout would totally kick my booty! And add that I am active to avoid heart disease, which runs in my family. I am trying to keep my cardiovascular strength at the "elite" level (that's what they call it at the gym, we get it measured every 4 months) so that my heart stays strong!
